ServiceNow opens platform to external AI agents via MCP servers
ServiceNow announced the general availability of out-of-the-box Model Context Protocol servers on August 25–27, 2026, ServiceNow Community, enabling external AI clients—including Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and Gemini—to connect directly to its enterprise operations platform without requiring custom integrations.
Direct Access to Governed Actions
The launch exposes MCP servers across ServiceNow's core product lines: ITSM (IT Service Management), ITOM (IT Operations Management), CMDB (Configuration Management Database), and SPM (Service Portfolio Management), ServiceNow Community. The capability is framed as a "governed action system"—external AI agents can orchestrate workflows, but the actual execution of business logic remains within ServiceNow's platform, preserving compliance and auditability.
ServiceNow positions this as a shift from one-way API consumption to bidirectional agent integration. Rather than forcing enterprises to build custom bridges or rely on third-party connectors, the out-of-the-box MCP servers allow leading AI models to read and act on ServiceNow data directly.
