Google Launches Gemini Spark Agent on macOS for US Subscribers

Google has begun rolling out Gemini Spark, its autonomous AI agent, to the macOS version of its Gemini app as of June 30, 2026, according to TechCrunch. The agent is currently available in beta exclusively to Google AI Ultra subscribers aged 18 and older in the United States, priced at $99 per month. The feature is not yet available in the UK, Canada, the European Economic Area, Australia, or Japan.

Gemini Spark integrates into the existing Gemini Mac app (version 1.80.15.516) and represents Google's entry into the agentic assistant market with concrete, shipping functionality. Unlike roadmap announcements, the agent is live and usable today for eligible subscribers in the US market.

Real-Time Topic Monitoring and File Integration

The core capability of Gemini Spark is real-time topic tracking. According to TechTimes, the agent continuously monitors defined subjects including sports scores, stock movements, breaking news, weather updates, social media activity, and shopping trends—surfacing updates proactively without user intervention.

Beyond monitoring, Gemini Spark can access and act on local files. Users must explicitly link specific folders containing documents like PDFs and invoices; the agent does not have broad filesystem access and users can revoke permissions at any time, according to Gadgets Now. This design limits attack surface while enabling productivity workflows.

Third-Party App Ecosystem

Gemini Spark ships with integrations to Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, Zillow Rentals, and Google's own Tasks and Keep apps. The agent also supports Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling developers to create custom tool connections. According to Softonic, MCP support allows advanced users to extend agent capabilities beyond Google's pre-built integrations.

Under the hood, Gemini Spark runs on Gemini 3.5 Flash using an internal infrastructure called Antigravity, which operates on dedicated virtual machines in Google Cloud rather than purely on-device processing. This architecture balances latency and capability for real-time monitoring tasks.

US-Only Beta, Global Rollout Unconfirmed

While Google has shipped Gemini Spark to production on macOS, the rollout remains strictly US-based during the beta phase. No timeline has been announced for availability in other regions or for non-Ultra subscribers. The agent represents a concrete shipping product in Google's competitive response to Claude and OpenAI's autonomous agent offerings, but enterprise and global adoption remains prospective.
