HubSpot cuts 660 jobs while pivoting to AI-driven outcomes
HubSpot announced on October 6, 2026, that it will eliminate approximately 660 jobs, representing about 7% of its global workforce, as part of a strategic reorganization centered on AI-driven customer outcomes.
The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based company's board authorized the restructuring plan on October 1, 2026. Chief executive Yamini Rangan said the company had shifted "from building software that helps customers grow to delivering outcomes for them with AI."
Reorganization Structure
HubSpot plans to reorganize product teams around customer outcomes rather than individual "Hubs" and features, reduce management layers, and move decision-making closer to employees. The company expects the reductions to be substantially complete by the end of the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.
Cost and Employee Support
HubSpot estimated restructuring charges of $65 million to $75 million, primarily for severance, notice-period costs, employee transition services, and benefits. Affected employees will receive 20 weeks of base pay, plus one additional week per year of service, capped at 30 weeks, along with healthcare and career-transition benefits.
AI Strategy Clarification
Rangan clarified that the layoffs were "not driven by AI-related efficiencies" and were not "simply a cost-cutting exercise." Instead, the restructuring reflects HubSpot's strategic pivot toward delivering measurable business outcomes for customers through AI integration, requiring a different organizational structure and skill mix than the company's previous hub-based product architecture.
The move comes as enterprises increasingly demand AI-powered solutions that deliver concrete business results rather than standalone software tools, signaling a broader industry shift toward outcome-based pricing and delivery models.
