SEC charges two firms with $15M AI trading bot fraud

SEC Files Civil Complaints Against Two AI Trading Fraud Operations

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission brought civil enforcement actions against Cryptoaiml Ltd. and TSAI Pro Ltd. on September 29, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging the companies orchestrated coordinated schemes to defraud retail investors of more than $15 million by misrepresenting AI-powered trading capabilities DLA Piper.

The SEC alleged that Cryptoaiml Ltd. and its affiliate Cryptoaiml Capital Foundation operated from at least August 2024 through March 2025, using WhatsApp groups to pose as investment professionals and promote purported AI-generated trading signals with claimed 98% accuracy Yahoo Finance. According to the complaint, no genuine trading actually occurred. The scheme targeted more than 300 retail investors and allegedly misappropriated approximately $12.5 million.

TSAI Pro's Parallel Operation

TSAI Pro Ltd., also operating as TSAI Exchange Ltd. and TSAI Capital Foundation, ran a similar operation from September 2024 through March 2025. The SEC alleged that TSAI promoted an "AI Trading Bot Program" through WhatsApp, Facebook, and the website techstarvoip.com, telling investors they could earn guaranteed profits by depositing funds to rent AI-programmed trading bots Securities.io. This scheme allegedly defrauded approximately 1,715 investors of at least $2.8 million.

Both cases carry the case numbers 1:26-cv-08508 (Cryptoaiml) and 1:26-cv-08518 (TSAI) in the Southern District of New York. The SEC's action represents part of a broader regulatory push to target what industry observers have termed "AI-washing" — making exaggerated or false claims about artificial intelligence capabilities to lure unsuspecting investors into fraudulent investment schemes NewsBreak.

Ongoing Enforcement Pattern

The complaints underscore the SEC's intensified scrutiny of entities leveraging AI terminology to mask traditional investment fraud. Both schemes relied on the same social-engineering playbook: informal messaging platforms, impersonation of credentialed professionals, and promises of returns that defied market reality. The SEC has not yet obtained final judgments, injunctions, or penalty orders in either case; these filings represent the initial phase of civil litigation.

The two matters highlight the vulnerability of retail investors to coordinated fraud networks operating across messaging applications and cryptocurrency ecosystems, where regulatory oversight remains fragmented and enforcement typically occurs only after substantial capital has been transferred.
